PRC launched a targeted home remodel initiative across resident properties — because we believe a stable environment is not just safe and functional, it is one that residents take genuine pride in calling home.
At PRC, we talk a lot about housing stability — keeping families housed, preventing eviction, building toward homeownership. But this year, we asked ourselves a harder question: is stable housing the same as a home you are proud of? The answer, for too many of our residents, was no. And we decided to do something about it.
We launched a targeted remodel initiative across several properties in our Independent Living and transitional housing programs, focusing on the upgrades that residents told us mattered most: fresh paint in colors they actually chose, updated kitchens with functioning appliances, bathroom fixtures that work reliably, and common areas that feel welcoming rather than institutional. We brought in licensed contractors — several of them graduates of our own Apprenticeship program — and we worked alongside residents at every step.
The results have been visible in ways that go beyond fresh drywall and new flooring. Residents are spending more time in common spaces. They are inviting family members over. They are maintaining their units with greater care. One resident told her care navigator, "This is the first place I've lived in years where I actually want to come home." That sentence is worth more to us than any metric.
We believe that dignity is not a luxury — it is a foundation. A home that is safe but shabby sends a message about who we think our residents are. We refuse to send that message. The remodel initiative will continue through the rest of 2026, and we are exploring grant funding to expand the scope to additional properties. Every PRC resident deserves a home that reflects the value we place on their stability, their growth, and their lives.
